Newcastle is a city of activity. There's plenty to do, but also time and space in which to enjoy yourself. Of all the sights of Newcastle, the most famous of these is the 'Tyne Bridge', which was the world's largest single span bridge until its famous cousin in Sydney, Australia was opened.

Newcastle was recently voted the eighth best party city in the world by American travel experts Weissman Travel. It was the only British city to make it onto the list! It has also been voted second best city in Europe for social life, and in a recent poll of office workers and students it was voted the best city in England for work and study.

There is an excellent choice of over 150 restaurants, including Chinatown with its wonderful shops and restaurants. Many of these restaurants offer cheap lunchtime and early evening prices, and the wide range of national dishes make Newcastle an exciting place to eat out in.

There are also plenty of pubs in Newcastle and this pub life has developed a unique culture. There are lots of traditional pubs, friendly places to enjoy a drink and conversation; pubs with music and good food, bars with wonderful 'live' music to dance and sing the night away. If you prefer something quieter, there are a growing number of cafe bars selling lots of different snacks and meals. Perhaps the most famous area for night- life is the Bigg Market and thousands of young people go there at the weekends. The people are generally extremely friendly to strangers and the cost of almost everything is cheaper than the South of England.
